R2:  ch 3 (ch 3 counts as first dc), turn, fl dc in next st, fl dc in each additional st =  68 sts

R3:  ch 3 (ch 3 counts as first dc), turn, bl dc in next st, bl dc in each additional st = 68 sts

R4:  ch 3 (ch 3 counts as first dc), turn, fl dc in next st, fl dc in each additional st =  68 sts

R5:  ch 3 (ch 3 counts as first dc), turn, bl dc in next st, bl dc in each additional st = 68 sts

R6:  ch 3 (ch 3 counts as first dc), turn, fl dc in next st, fl dc in each additional st =  68 sts

R7:  ch 3 (ch 3 counts as first dc), turn, bl dc in next st, bl dc in each additional st = 68 sts

R8:  ch 3 (ch 3 counts as first dc), turn, fl dc in next st, fl dc in each additional st =  68 sts

R9:  ch 3 (ch 3 counts as first dc), turn, bl dc in next st, bl dc in each additional st = 68 sts

R10:  ch 3 (ch 3 counts as first dc), turn, fl dc in next st, fl dc in each additional st = 68 sts

Fasten off.  Tie loose ends.  Weave ends.

Sew four buttons on, be sure to look at the photo to see which side of the scarf to place them on. Sew, or tie, on the 1st button between 2nd and 3rd dc sts of R1 and R2 (where the 2 rows connect).  Do the same for the 2nd button, except sew, or tie, it on between the 6th and 7th dc sts (where the 2 rows connect). Continue following this procedure, except sew the 3rd button on between the 14th and 15th dc sts (where the 2 rows connect), and the 4th button on between the 19th and 20th dc sts (where the 2 rows connect).  This pattern uses the yarn used for the scarf to sew on the buttons, however, you can choose to use thread if button holes are too small. If you are using the same yarn as the scarf, and the same buttons, you will want to divide the yarn in quarters, so it is thinner and easier to thread through the holes in the buttons.  When done securing the buttons, weave ends of yarn/thread to hide.
